MMWCAS-RF-EVM: Continuous streaming for the EVM support

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWCAS-DSP-EVM, AWR1243

Hi,

I'm evaluating the cascade radar board mounted on MMWCAS-DSP-EVM. I followed the cascade user guide to collect some data but it doesn't make much sense on limited frames. I looked around for continuous stream on mmWave studio cascade user guide, but I found it has limited support and would only capture one frame. I wanted to know if the support is still limited or not. Thank you.

  • Hi,

The MMWCAS-DSP-EVM allows you to capture more than one frame, and is limited only by available storage on the SSD. You can configure the system to capture an indefinite number of frames and can even do a drive test of several tens of minutes.

The limitation you refer to in the user guide is about "FMCW radar continuous streaming" mode which is a different mode of operation of the AWR1243, not of the capture system. This is a mode mainly used for RF performance characterization, and in this mode the AWR1243 does not send an end-of-frame marker. Therefore the capture system can only capture a pre-decided number of chirps. This mode is not a regular functional mode and does not allow you to configure arbitrary chirp, profile and frame configurations like you would use in normal operation.

This limitation should not affect most regular use cases, and we allow capturing indefinitely to the SSD for regular functional modes.

We do not support any live streaming mode with mmWave Studio in which the captured data is streamed to the host PC. For this, you can refer to and use TI's RadarSDK/Vision SDK (available from here, http://www.ti.com/tool/PROCESSOR-SDK-TDAX

  • Hi Anand,

Thank you for the detailed response. You got it right, I thought continuous stream would mean stream live capture data through the mmWave studio software. When you say use RadarSDK/Vision SDK you mean that there's a software in the package that would allow me to stream live data?

  • Hi Asher

We support capturing and streaming live data through ethernet in the Vision SDK/Radar SDK. However, given the practical bandwidth you can reach on the Ethernet is near 500 - 600 Mbps you would need to restrict the Radar cube size/ frame rate.

Note the ethernet traffic is not read by the mmwavestudio at run time and show live processing.

    Thanks and Regards
