AWR1843BOOST: What is this open connnection?

Hey all,

Was wondering what this open connection is near the antennas. Do i need to connect it for additional features? It is an AWR1843BOOST Rev-C board.

Also, DSP on the board is heating up significantly when I run the Automotive Toolbox MRR demo, the temperature which it has never reached. Do I put a heat sink on top of it, or is it normal for the DSP to heat up so much?

Hi,

I have referred this question to the board designer to answer the question about "open connection is near the antennas".

Regarding MRR, there is no need to put a sink on top of it in normal operating conditions. If the board is placed in a hot environment a sink or fan may help

Hello,

That is the location of capacitor C83, an optional decoupling capacitor on the VOUT_PA pin. If you download the schematics from the product folder you will see that this capacitor is not populated by default.

Also, if I add one, will it help in an automotive requirement?

Hello,

It was added to the design as a debug option in case there were stability or transient issues with the internal VOUT_PA LDO. However, performance is fine without it so it is not required.

What do you mean by automotive requirement?

Hey,

We are using the 1843 for making a type of ADAS system where we are trying to make the 1843 detect cars, pedestrians, etc. at a range of 100 meters. That is what i mean by automotive requirement.

Hello,

There will not be any impact to performance by populating the capacitor, so it shouldn't have any impact on your requirements.
