AWR1243: Phase Shifter and BPM

Part Number: AWR1243

Hi,

1) are the BPM control and the 6 bit phase shifter independent from each other?

2) are there any rules to using both simultaneously?

3) other than activating the "per chirp phase shifter En" in the Radar Miscellaneous Control, any other setup necessary for the 6 bit phase shifter

4) do you have any validation data that shows the accuracy of the phase shifter?

Thank you,

Badeea

  • Hi Badeea,

Here are my answers to your queries

    1)  Yes, both are independent and used by different HW module in the device.

    2) You can use both simultaneously.

    3) that's the only API to enable phase shifter.

    4) I will share the data with you soon.

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hello Jitendra,

Thank you for your answers. Looking foreword for the data. to put things in context, i am seeing an amplitude and phase error which is causing AM/FM modulation in my signal resulting in soome sidebands in doppler. I want to know the characteristics of the error caused by the phase shifter to see if i can compensate for it reliably. that includes how stable is the error across temperature.

    Thank you,

    Badeea

  • Hi Badeea,

Receiver Phase mismatch variation (over temperature) is ±3° : refer AWR1243P datasheet SWRS188B.

Whereas Phase shifter module has 2LSB variation (~10°) across temperature, this data incorporates Tx and Rx path together.

How much phase error is observed at your end?

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hello Jitendra,

Thank you for the information. I have not measured the variation over temperature I was asking to know to get a sense of nominal behavior to know if i can compensate for the phase  shifter error reliably.

Anyway, I will mark this as resolved

    Thank you,

    Badeea
