IWR1443BOOST: Level sensing and lense

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST

Hello,
in the following video we mentioned to use a lense for level sensing:
https://training.ti.com/fluid-level-sensing-demonstration-using-ti-mmwave-sensors?cu=1135109

- What lense was used?
- Can the lense be used with the booster pack?
- Is a lense always needed for level sensing? When is a lense needed?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

Unfortunately we do not have any information about the lens that was used but it is possible to use for any of the mmWave Devices.

The need of a lens depends on an application and this is same for level sensing. Since the lens concentrates the beam to a much smaller area it will make sense for many level sensing applications, although may not if the medium being measured was solid or uneven. In that instance a broader field of view would be desirable.

  • Akash,
in the video you explained that you used a lense. Why can't you tell more about that lense?

    Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

The Lens in that demo was borrowed from a systems engineer and no one is sure of the origin. We also do not have access to it anymore unfortunately.

While I cannot recommend a specific lens manufacturer on E2E forums, I would make sure the lens you are looking at appropriate for mmWave with a design frequency of >100GHz. If you would like to discuss further feel free to email me.

    Regards,

    AG
