OPT3101: about the internal TOF receiver module questions

Part Number: OPT3101

Hello,

Our customer need the detailed parameter information of the TOF receiver, for example, if it includes a fully differential amplifier, what is the input noise, input bias current, bandwidth. In addition, if it also includes a mixer, what is the frequency range and gain?

Best regards

Kailyn

  • Hi Kailyn,

What is the reason for these questions about device internals? Maybe best to take over email so you can disclose about the customer, use-case, and application here?

  • Hi,

This project is a tof module used on a small uav (toy type) and polaroid (children's camera). Due to the large number of customers, 3KKpcs per year, the customer requires a high cost and volume. However, when our company tested opt3101, we found that the module could meet the range of about 5 meters when measuring the reflectivity of the whiteboard in the room with a high 90%, but the accuracy and repeatability were poor (10cm or more).Outdoor use is completely unable to meet the low reflection target measurement (10% reflectance gray plate). Our company adopts high energy laser (the modulation power is nearly 20mW) and low noise pin photodiode, which can guarantee 5 meters measurement range indoors and outdoors in other schemes.

View OPT3101, pin photodiode differential output after direct separation until tof receiver. The connection is usually a differential amplifier + down-conversion mixer, but the actual direct connection mixer works. Therefore, I would like to consult the original ti internal structure. If the echo signal is very weak, the direct mixed frequency incoming message and noise ratio will be very low. Could you connect the first-level tia amplifier directly to the pin tube and opt3101 to increase the driving capacity?

  • Hi,

Did you run your tests on the EVM or on a custom board? OPT3101 is usually limited on range by the signal to crosstalk ratio - so first places to look are output power of emitter, photodiode, and the crosstalk level after calibration. Regarding outdoor performance, OPT3101 should have good outdoor performance if the ambient calibration is performed well. So first thing I'd like to check are those calibrations to make sure values are good.

OPT3101 will bias the photodiode and measures differential current between PD and matching cap so you could not connect a TIA to that input.
