TMP117: Possible failure modes

Part Number: TMP117

Hi,

Customers wants to know what are the possible failure modes of TMP117 device?

For example: Can the sensor drifts out of its specification significantly or reading many degree out of its specification? and the temperature could still be read from the device as normal.

Could the IC fail in some other ways that the temperature could still be read from the device?

Thanks

  • Hi Aivaras,

    Thank you for your post.

I would not expect the sensor to drift out of spec at any point, unless running for very long periods are very high temperatures. Drift for the TMP117 is extremely low.

It would be possible for external mechanical stresses, ESD, or EOS to damage the TMP117 in such a way that temperature is still readable but not correct. The effects of ESD in that way are not easily predictable.
