TMP461: hot plug the remote thermal transistor

Part Number: TMP461

Hello E2E,

Could TMP461 support hot plug function assume bias power of TMP461 is existing?

if yes, any thing we should need to pay attention?

if not, any solution is suitable in this case?

Sincerely,

Jason

  • Jason -

Are you asking about "hot plugging" the remote transistor while the TMP461 is on and operating with the MCU/MPU firmware running?

If so, please see page 13 of the datasheet, section 8.3.5, with regards to the OPEN bit in the status register.

  • Josh,

Yes, we are talking about "Hot plug" the remote transistor.

I read section 8.3.5. once remote transistor is open, TMP461 could detect.

once remote transistor plug in, does user need to do any procedure to reset or clear the fault or they could directly read the thermal information by checking OPEN bit?

Any risk to damage TMP461 when user Hot plug / remove the remote transistor?

    Sincerely,

    Jason

  • Hi Jason,

I have not seen any issues with "hot plugging" the remote.  The device will auto-retry the D+/- pins so there is no need to clear the any faults before reading the temperature.  You will however get an "open" fault when the transistor is disconnected.

    Thanks,

    David
