HDC2080: Detection temperature/humidity range

Part Number: HDC2080

Hello experts,

I have question for detection rage of temp/humidity.

In datasheet, there is note that
"(6) Limits apply over the humidity operating range 20 to 80% RH (non-condensing) from 0 to 60°C"
"(11) Recommended humidity operating range is 20 to 80% RH (non-condensing) over 0 to 60°C. Prolonged operation beyond these ranges may result in a shift of sensor reading, with slow recovery time."

It means it is difficult to detect the range as below?

- 0~20%RH/80~100%RH with ±0.1% resolution/±3%RH accuracy

Once into condensing status, it is difficult to detect humidity correctly. Is my understanding correct?

Also, is it possible to expect how much temperature accuracy for  -10°C~5°C?
In datasheet, there is only accuracy for 5°C~60°C.

My customer expect HDC2080 can detect -10~40°C and 0~100%RH.

I would appreciate if you would give me comment.

Thanks and best regards,

  • Hi Akashi-San,

Thank you for your post. You are correct that condensation makes it impossible to detect humidity properly. Condensation on the sensing polymer will interfere with the humidity readings.

We do not have a maximum temperature accuracy specification for this part below 5 °C, but figure 3 does provide a typical accuracy down to -40 °C.

The part will continue to operate below 0 °C, and between 0 to 100%RH, but RH accuracy is not guaranteed outside the ranges in the datasheet. 100% RH implies that the part will be very likely to be exposed to condensation, and below 0 °C the amount of water that air can hold is extremely small. This makes its difficult for the HDC2080 to accurately detect ambient moisture under those conditions.

  • Hello Brandon-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
Ok, I understand the reason that measurement humidity except 20~80%RH range is not recommended.
