TMCS1100: Current range of TMCS1100

Part Number: TMCS1100

Hello, I have a small question on continuous current range. As the max continuous current of TMCS1100 is about 20A, could two chips of TMCS1100 be in parallel connection, then the max measurable current will be 40A?

  • Hello user4573963,

Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments.  You could put two TMCS1100 devices in parallel, however the lead frame over which the load passes through the part has some tolerance.  This tolerance along with any mismatch in trace length or width to either TMCS1100 device forms a current divider.  I would expect some degree of mismatch.  So its possible one device might actually see more than 20A.  With heavy copper planes or bigger traces you might be able to push more than 20A, but you will need to do some thermal measurements to verify your layout keeps the device junction below 150C.
