How to set OPT3101 ILLUM_DAC_L_TX0 & HDR_THR_HIGH

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3101

As we are studying OPT3101 TOF technology, we find that in the file 《OPT3101 ToF-Based Long-Range Proximity and Distance Sensor AFE》 Page 105, as we calculate the illumination current should be 100mA, then
1. why set the ILLUM_DAC_L_TX0 = 2 and ILLUM_DAC_H_TX0 = 20 (which means I(illum_dac_h_tx0)=112mA, I(illum_dac_l_tx0)= 11.2mA) ?
2. Why not choose I(illum_dac_h_tx0) as 100.8mA or 106.4mA or other bigger than 100mA?
3. How to calculate I(illum_dac_l_tx0)? Is there any formula ?

4. Why set HDR_THR_HIGH as 27000 ? If we choose Super_HDR mode, how to configure HDR_THR_HIGH ?

  • Hi,

Have you used the configurator tool online? http://www.ti.com/tool/OPT3101CONFIG-SW

This will simplify the process of choosing these parameters.

    1) Given the requirements setting the high current to any value >100mA will work

    2)  see 1)

    3) This depends on your requirements as it determines how much amplitude will drop when changing from high to low settings. This along with the thresholds can be chosen to optimize the HDR switching. The configurator tool will simplify this process. You may also want to refer to our estimator tool for understanding the amplitude values needed across distance and thus desired current settings.
