Recommendation for Battery Management for small mobile recording device

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25155, BQ25120A, BQ25611D

TI Team,

We are working on a small mobile recording device, and chose the LTC3556 from ADI/LT due to it's multiple integrated DC-DC converters. We have been able to eliminate the need for all but the main buck/boost converter and are now looking for a smaller, more efficient, and easier to use solution.

The block diagram for the current system is shown below:

Can you please make a recommendation for a small, efficient battery management IC that can offer ≥1.5A of output drive capability?

Key care-abouts are:

  • Small Footprint
  • Efficient Operation/Standby Mode
  • Easy to Use

It would be great if we could find something with an integrated fuel guage, but that doesn't seem to be available.

Appreciate the help,
Cody

  • Hi Cody,

As long as integration goes, we currently offer DC-DC buck converter and LDO in the charger. These are our linear chargers BQ25120A and BQ25155.

For switching chargers please look at BQ25611D (1S, 3A, I2C controlled switching charger with power path).

Note: with these chargers, you will need an external buck-boost to provide regulated 3.45V for your system, if you plan to let your battery run below 3.4V.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Upal,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, integration is a key requirement (as the board size of 1/2 of a playing card), so we'll guide the client to the "little brother" of the LTC3556 (integrated buck/boost with additional buck/ldo.)

Thanks again, and have a great weekend!
    Cody
