LDC1614: Accuracy and stability improvement using external clock

Part Number: LDC1614

Hi Team,

My customer wants to understand how clock specs affect LDC1614's accuracy and stability.

are there any documents describing such the topic and Measurement Core algorithm using equations?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Takashi,

Thanks fro reaching out, the digitized sensor measurement for each channel (DATAx) represents the ratio of the sensor frequency to the reference frequency.

We recommend using a 40MHz external oscillator with minimal drift over temperature and minimal jitter. This will maximize the resolution. Tight tolerances for the frequency will improve part-to-part variation. We recommend using an oscillator that is at least as good at the 40MHz oscillator used on the LDC1614EVM (part number can be found in the BOM in the User's Guide).

I would also recommend for you to reveiw the following document in regards to resolution for the LDC devices : https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snoa944/snoa944.pdf?ts=1595254207134&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

In section 3: LDC Clocking there is a comparison taken on the LDC1614 EVM using an external vs internal clock.
