DRV401: Large offset output

Part Number: DRV401

Hi, Staff

Large offset output

The current sensor using the DRV401 has been confirmed to operate in a manner that does not meet the device specifications.

An individual whose output (offset output) is large when the input current is 0 A (about 100 mV) or an individual whose offset output changes each time the power is turned on,
There are some individuals that are not stable, such as those whose offset output changes due to changes in temperature and humidity.

From the DRV401 data sheet, I think that it is a probe driver that creates an excitation waveform with an output operational amplifier as a part that may affect the offset output.
If there are other possible causes for the change in offset, would you like to teach me?

  • Hello Cafain,

The large offset may be due to the flux-gate or the magnetic core offset.  Does this offset still exist after you engage the degauss function?  The degauss must be done with 0A at the primary location.

If the core is saturated from the last use this will create an offset in the core and leave it magnetized.  If this is the issue initiating a degauss should fix it.

A couple of ways I have seen cores saturate:

    • reverse connection of Icomp pins
    • Running large current without DRV401 on.
    • Short circuit on Primary current casing large spike in field
  • Hello Javier san

Thank you for your detailed comments.

Let's check the status of Magnetic core offset.
If you have any questions, we will access them again.

    Best Regards
