AWR1443BOOST: FOV for different radar antenna configurations

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843BOOST, AWR1243BOOST

Hello,

I'm currently trying to figure out how the FOV of the radar unit changes with the different profile_cfgs uploaded.

In the AWR1443BOOST datasheet, information is provided on this for the H and E field intensities (Horizontal and Vertical). However, the profile configuration used was not mentioned, so I assumed all TX and RX antenna's were active (4RX, 3TX). The FOV for this was H ~= +- 28*, E~= +- 14* at 3db.

I would also like to know the H and E FOV for the following configuration,

1. 4RX, 2TX

2. 4RX, 1TX

3. 2RX, 1TX

Thanks,

Austin

  • Hi,

Usually the FOV may slightly change only with the difference in bandwidth.

For the BOOST antenna (available on AWR1243BOOST, AWR1443BOOST, AWR1843BOOST) the data provided in the EVM datasheet is based on chirp configurations that span 76-77.5GHz; 77.5-79.25GHz; 79.25GHz-81Ghz.

The chirp configurations enable the Tx one at a time (MIMO)

This is the information we have available.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar,

Ah, I believe I understand. I assume the rational for providing the FOV for 1TX is because in obtaining angles from the data, the unit switches TX antennas, I.e (TX1, then TX2, then TX3) and they’re all used independently so data on only one TX is needed to understand the FOV for all?

Therefore, the FOV I incorrectly labeled 4RX, 3TX is actually the FOV for TX in general and therefore all configurations, but this depends on the bandwidth you mentioned?

    Thanks,

    Austin

  • Yes,
You are correct. The graphs in different colors correspond to different bandwidths

  • Perfect, thank you!
