IWR1443: Effective Number of Bits

Part Number: IWR1443

Hi There.

A2D's number of bits was mentioned 12 bits in datasheet of IWR1443. However it has been also mentioned in this forum that output of DFE can be 12/14/16 bits.

I was wondering what is ENOB of the A2D and DFE combined? And how much dynamic range is possible per sample?

Regards.

  • For the Complex receiver’s chain understanding you can review the below white paper.

    http://www.ti.com/lit/wp/spyy007/spyy007.pdf

Receiver channel has RF LNA + Mixer + IF + ADC + DFE stages with programmable bits 12, 14 and 16 from the DFE output stages.

Just ADC alone ENOB is 10.5 bits, However receiver dynamic range decided by the programmed gain and the Noise figure.

Front end provides minimum of 24dB to maximum of 48dB, And correspondingly there is impact on the noise figure hence the dynamic range.

Over all Radar dynamic range is function of many other parameters such as Tx output power, Tx, Rx antenna gains, RCS of the object, Integration time, Distance of the object from the Antenna etc.

Using the sensing estimator (link below) you can estimate the dynamic range for your particular use case.
