BOOSTXL-TUSS4440: Missing documentation to set frequency?

Part Number: BOOSTXL-TUSS4440
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4440,

I can not see how to set the frequency of the transducer.  This is related to my other question, what is the frequency of the bundled transducer.

The user guide mentions CFLT/CINN with no further explanation:

"Set the CFLT shunt(s) at J1 and CINN shunts(s) at J4 to most closely equal (or rounded up to) the calculated capacitance values based on the transducer frequency."

Akeem has answered a question here and hints at a table (Table 20) that I can not find

"To configure the device for 200 or 300kHz operation, refer to datasheet equations in Table 20 Recommended Component Values for Typical Applications to solve for the C_INN and C_FLT capacitor values as a function of transducer frequency. Be sure to set BPF_HPF_FREQ register value to most closely match the transducer frequency value"

Clearly the documentation is still evolving for this product, looking forward to getting some clarification.

Thank you

  • Hi Zak,

I've responded to your other post regarding the included transducer details (40kHz PUI Audio UTR-1440K-TTR).

Regarding the calculation of the C_INN and C_FLT values, it's the TUSS4440's datasheet "Table 21. Recommended Component Values for Typical Applications" that shows how to calculate these values based on f_DRV_CLK (transducer frequency).

If you haven't already, I recommend that you view the beta "BOOST-TUSS44x0 EVM-GUI Overview and Quick Start Video" on the Ultrasonic E2E FAQ page for a quick walk through on how to configure the registers and run the tool at https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/748143

Here is a look-up table of C_INN and C_FLT values I've calculated in spreadsheet form:

  • Thanks again Akeem,

The video is mentioned but not linked on that page:

    "TUSS44x0 E2E Content:

BOOST-TUSS44x0 EVM-GUI Overview and Quick Start Video:"

Also, can I assume the BOOSTXL-TUSS4440 is configured for the 40khz UTR-1440K-TT-R out of the box?

  • Zak,

What web browser are you using to find the video? I checked the Ultrasonic E2E FAQ page on both my desktop and mobile, and the video is shown on both. It is not a hyperlink, it's an embedded video on the page. You may need to scroll down a little further since it has a small play button thumbnail.

The BOOSTXL-TUSS4440 should be configured for a 40kHz transducer out-of-box, so you do not need to move the C_INN and C_FLT capacitor jumpers. It's always good to double check the jumper positions though!

  • Hi Akeem,

Browser is Safari on macOS.  I inspected the HTML and the video seems to be positioned at -10000px for some reason, it's fine on Chrome so I suspect some js/css failed to move it in place on Safari.

Thank you again, I think I am set.

    Zak.
