Hi team,

I would like to ask some questions which are showing as below. I'm not familiar with ALS so question may be simple. Please help answer as detail as you can. Thank you very much.

Measurements: 0.01 lux to 83 k lux

-> Does this mean the range is similar to eye diagram?

23-Bit Effective Dynamic Range With Automatic Gain Ranging

-> What does this mean? Does it mean that we could transfer lux unit to digital signal unit and it has 2^23 step?

3. 12 Binary-Weighted Full-Scale Range Settings: < 0.2% (typ) Matching Between Ranges

-> what does this mean?

4. Could you help take an example if OPT3001-Q1 sense 10k lux? what will I2C of OPT3001 output?

Rejects > 99% (typ) of IR

-> Does it mean the external IR wouldn't affect the OPT3001-Q1?

1. Not exactly, but please see this video at time 3:33 (3 minutes 33 seconds in) and this should clarify https://training.ti.com/14-ti-precision-labs-ambient-light-sensors-units-light?context=1139747-1139746-1140283-1140287

2. This is effective dynamic range in bits: log2(83k/0.01) = 23 bits

3. device has different range settings (see Table 12. Full-Scale Range and LSB Size as a Function of Exponent Level in datasheet) spec is about accuracy comparing same light level and adjacent range settings

4. see datasheet page 21 equations 1,2,3. You can calculate this from the equation relating lux and the result register

5. correct. OPT3001-Q1 under most conditions will not be effected by external IR light. One exception we have seen is using IP cameras and for this market we have OPT3004 to address this.
