AWR1843BOOST: CAN SBL - Error : RPRC Parsing Failure

Hi,

I am using CAN SBL Lab on TI's Automotive Toolbox v3.2.0 on AWR1843 Boost Board.

1. I generated the binary using CCS and flashed to AWR1843 Boost Board.

2. After that, I opened Teraterm of the Data Port and changed the Baud Rate to 115200.

3. Pressed the Reset Button on AWR1843 Boost Board. After that i clicked Enter.

4. After that I clicked Space Button.

5. Opened the Command Prompt, Executed the CAN Metaimage Flasher with the Binary.

6. In the Command Prompt, It said File Sent.

7. But in Teraterm, It was showing Error: RPRC Parsing Failure.

Error Message :

Can you suggest any idea to resolve the issue?

Shankar,

What is your physical connection from your PC to the AWR1843BOOST EVM? Are you using a USB-to-CAN dongle?

If you are looking to evaluate the SBL application over SPI using just a USB micro cable, then I would suggest reviewing the SBL utility included in the mmWave SDK.

You can find the SBL application for the latest SDK (v3.5) in this folder directory:

C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_05_00_04\packages\ti\utils\sbl

I am using PCAN-USBFD Hardware to connect from PC to Radar.

I have tried the SBL present in SDK 3.5. But in that only UART is present, I need for CAN.

Thank you for your response. Let me review this information in more detail and get back to you.

In the meantime, I would suggest using the SDK v3.5 SBL as a starting point, and then port the changes that specifically implement the CAN messaging to complete a new code base.

Shankar,

Please make sure your AWR1843BOOST EVM has the switch set to the "CAN" position on the top of the board to enable the CAN connection to the three header pins. This switch allows an easy switch between the CAN and SPI peripherals.

I have changed the Switch setting to CAN. I am able to receive the binary file in the firmware. After that, while loading i am facing the Error : RPRC Parsing Failure.

Shankar,

Can you upload a few pictures of your physical setup? The line from your console log that raises some questions is this one

"Debug: Device info: Manufacturer: 0, Device type = 0, Capacity = 0"

The User Guide from this lab shows these values being non-zero, so I'm concerned there may be an issue with the physical setup that is prevented proper execution of the lab.

Please review the User Guide for the CAN over SBL lab to ensure all of the steps for this lab are being followed.

In my Console, I am getting as "Debug: Device info: Manufacturer: 0, Device type = 0, Capacity = 0". I followed the User Guide Instructions. Kindly suggest a solution?

Shankar,

Can you check and see if you can run the SDK Out-of-Box demo? I want to see if your EVM is operating normally. The power connector on your EVM is highly discolored and I want to make sure the board is not damaged.

Kyle,

I flashed SDK 3.5.0.4 18xx OOB Binary. In mmWave Demo Visualizer, Plots were visible. I have attached some images for your reference. So, the EVM is not damaged and it is working fine.

The only other thing that comes it mind is to check the connections made on the PEAK CAN-to-USB dongle. Please make sure the proper connections are made to the AWR1843BOOST EVM.

I tested the PEAK CAN-to-USB dongle Loopback test. It is working fine. Connections to the AWR1843BOOST EVM are also fine.

If the AWR1843BOOSTEVM is operating correctly when running the Out-of-Box demo, then there is likely an issue with the physical setup of the CAN-to-USB dongle.

I would suggest reviewing the physical connections from the CAN connector block on the AWR1843BOOST to the USB dongle. Perhaps there is a wiring issue on the termination block of the USB dongle.
