TPS55289: TPS55289

Part Number: TPS55289

Tool/software:

Dear Team,

We are evaluating the TPS55289 for use in one of our medical device designs. The device is intended to power a Murata micro pump, which requires an operating voltage between 5V and 15V. We are using the Murata-recommended driver circuit for the pump and generating the supply using the TPS55289.

The system works as expected at 5V input, but we are encountering stability issues when the input voltage is reduced to 3.3V. While the TPS55289 does begin to boost the output at 3.3V input, the output becomes unstable or the load (pump) shuts down intermittently when connected.

We have verified that the load works properly at 5V input, but not reliably at 3.3V, even though TPS55289 datasheet suggests operation is possible from this level.

Could you please help us with the following?

  1. Is TPS55289 guaranteed to support boosting from 3.3V input to 1.2 V to 20V output under moderate load (typical pump current)?

  2. Are there recommended external component values or register settings to optimize operation from a 3.3V input?

  3. Could this be related to current limit, soft-start, inrush current, or compensation settings?

  4. Do you have any guidance on how to ensure stable startup and operation from 3.3V input with this part?

We would appreciate your support, as we would prefer to retain this part if the issue can be resolved through configuration or passive component tuning.

Additionally, we are open to considering an alternate IC that meets the following requirements:

  • The output voltage should be programmable via I²C or SPI interface.

  • The voltage step resolution should be less than 10mV for precise control.

  • The input voltage should support as low as 3V,

  • The output voltage range should be from 3V to 15V.

If you could recommend a suitable IC that meets these criteria, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
