TPSM33615: how to calculate the effective capacitance value for output capacitor

hello,

Please tell me how to calculate the effective capacitance value of output capacitor about 40 µF described in the datasheet 9.2.2.4 Output capacitor selection.

For this design example, select 2*22µF, 16 V, 1210 case size, ceramic capacitors, which have a total effective capacitance of approximately 40 µF at 5 V.

With, capacitor ref TDK CGA6P1X7R1C226 M250AC :

Therefore, I think 22×0,8*0,927*0,85=14 uF. 0,8 for tolerance +- 20%; 0,927 for DC bias (5V) and 0,85 for X7R (+-15%).

14 uF*2= 28 uF. Since it is not 40uF, please tell me how to calculate it.

in the specification it is noted §9.2.2.4 output capacitor selection "For this design example, select 2 x 22 μF, 16 V, 1210 case size, ceramic capacitors, which have a total effective capacitance of approximately 40 μF at 5 V, can you explain to me how you find this value.

Hello

Your calculation is correct. It is very worst case. You can use 3x of those capacitors.

However, from the data sheet it appears you only need 25uF of actual capacitance.

I am contacting you regarding the functional safety certification of the TI Safety MCUs covered by TÜV SÜD Certificate No. Z10 088989 0016 Rev. 00, based on Test Report No. TD97073C.

According to the current certificate, its validity ended on 2026-06-27. We would therefore like to clarify the current certification status of this hardware component.

We are currently preparing future functional safety certification activities for our system, involving software-only modifications on this specific Texas Instruments microcontroller. In order to support a smooth recertification process with our safety assessor, we would appreciate clarification on the points below:

Certificate renewal:
Is Texas Instruments planning to renew this specific TÜV SÜD certificate? If so, could you please indicate when an updated version, such as Rev. 01, may become available?
Alternative documentation:
If the certificate is not expected to be formally renewed, does Texas Instruments provide a Letter of Conformance or any official statement confirming that the MCU architecture remains compliant with the applicable SIL3 and functional safety requirements?
Safety documentation:
Are any updates to the Safety Manual or FMEDA for this product family planned following the certificate expiration date?

TUV SUD has been assigned a PO and they’re working internally on renewing the certificate. They should get back by next week.

I am using AM261x OSPI1 with an AP Memory APS12808L Octal DDR PSRAM for external SRAM expansion.

The PSRAM is accessed through the OSPI1 memory-mapped region starting at:

0xA0000000

I would like to enable OSPI PHY mode, DQS-based read capture, and Direct Access Controller mode.

Could you please provide the recommended SysConfig settings and OSPI register settings for this configuration?

The registers and fields I am currently reviewing are:

Which SysConfig option enables OSPI1 PHY mode for PSRAM?
Which of the above register fields must be enabled?
Is PHY calibration or DLL tuning required for Octal DDR PSRAM?
Can the existing OSPI NOR Flash PHY tuning procedure be used for PSRAM?
Is there an MCU+ SDK PSRAM example that uses PHY mode?

I also need to perform 8-bit memory-mapped writes:

(volatile uint8_t *)0xA0000000U;

psram[0] = 0xAAU;

The APS12808L requires a minimum two-byte write transfer and uses DQS/DM to mask the byte that must not be updated.

Does the AM261x OSPI1 Direct Access Controller automatically convert an R5F 8-bit store into a two-byte PSRAM write with the appropriate DM value?

If not, what is the recommended method for updating a single byte in the PSRAM?

A known-good SysConfig file or an OSPI1 register dump would be very helpful.

Hi Hiroshi,
For Octal DDR mode, 8-bit transfer size is not allowed, since 2 bytes are transferred within a single SPI clock cycle.
For the APS PSRAM 1-byte write case, the OSPI/DQS control logic does not support generating the required DQS/DM masking pattern. The MSS_CTRL_OSPI1_DQS_CONTROL register only provides control for the initial DQS enable timing and does not support per-operation DQS/DM toggling.
Therefore, for this Octal DDR PSRAM configuration, 2 bytes should be used as the minimum write size.

Also new version of AM261x SDK has been released on TI.com which now has support for PSRAM PHY tuning

Thank you for the clarification.

We understand that the current driver supports a minimum write size of 2 bytes and that 1-byte transactions have not been tested.

Could you please confirm whether 1-byte writes are supported by the AM261x OSPI hardware itself?

When an STRB instruction is issued to the OSPI DAC-mapped PSRAM region, we expect the OSPI hardware to generate a 2-byte PSRAM transaction and use DM to mask the adjacent byte.

However, the AM261x TRM states that the SoC DQS control logic drives the DQS signal low during the PSRAM write data phase. This seems to indicate that the logic does not generate a byte-specific DM pattern.

Could you please clarify:

- Can the AM261x OSPI hardware generate the appropriate DM pattern for an 8-bit DAC write?
- Is STRB officially supported for the OSPI DAC-mapped PSRAM region?
- If it is supported, what register configuration is required?
- If it is not supported, is 2 bytes the minimum hardware-supported write size?

Please refer to the standard reflow profile for the maximum reflow temperature (°C) and reflow solder time (Sec).

And the recommended max number of reflow cycle is 3.
