Temperature sensor recommendation for use in conjunction with the TMUX1308 in a BMS system

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP235, TMP235-Q1, TMP61

Hello,

I am working on a promoting a TMUX 1308 for use in a BMS and want to pair it with a temperature sensor. I was looking at the TMP235 Q1, is there any other products you may believe to be a better fit?

  • Dear Chris -

The TMP235-Q1 is a great part, should work OK with a mux - might have to check it out on a proto board to make sure the RDSon does not impact the analog output. The choice for an auto temp sensor really depends on the end use case requirements (package, accuracy and cost targets), though, I have seen, just FYI -

We do have in the portfolio ~42 auto grade temp sensors (analog and digital) that are in the portfolio to meet those wide ranging requirements that we see in the market.

Also, I should mention that TMP61/63/64 devices comprise another great family of parts that is fairly new and is a technology advance over NTCs, at same price point, where they are used, too, as it is linear in nature and allows developers to really get some great accuracy over temp range which is impossible with an NTC, without expensive (and hard to implement on a test floor) three point calibration needed. You might get some pushback from a firmware perspective if you go this direction, but we must help our customers understand (and this might take years) that NTCs are obsoleted by the TMP6 family release.

Anyway - good choice here I think - let us know if we need to help in any other way. :)

  • Thanks, appreciate the help
