SN74CB3Q16210: SN74CB3Q16210DGVR - recommended for Hot Swap applications?

SN74CB3Q16210DGVR is hot swappable.  Could you please advise? 

Device currently in use is QS34XVH245Q3G8 from Renesas.

I don’t see anything about this on the product page.  Let me know if Iany additional information is needed.

    It depends on the exact use case. 

    The two largest concerns we see with hot-swapping are:

    1. Voltage on the analog I/O pins while VDD is disconnected during hot swap event

    2. In rush current due to hot-swapping (currents can be large) 

    For option 1 - the  SN74CB3Q16210 has powered off protection (analog I/O's are hi-z when VDD = 0V for input voltages w.r.t. ground from 0V to 5.5V.  So if this is the only concern during the hot-swap the SN74CB3Q16210 should work fine.

    For option 2 - the SN74CB3Q16210 only can handle +/-64mA of current through the switch - if there is an in-rush current larger than that this part will not be able to handle it.

    With all that being said the competition part also meets option 1 - but it is also limited to how much in-rush current it can handle and worst case in-rush currents are restricted by the on resistance - and both devices can have in-rush currents that will destroy the parts.

    So when looking at the comp. part it is fair to say that both devices should fair somewhat similarly in these applications. Since they are signal switches neither one of the devices is meant to handle large current transients  - if that is a concern a load switch is most likely needed - and they both can isolate when VDD = 0V. 

    In conclusion the SN74CB3Q16210 should perform similarly to the competition part in these applications due to both parts having powered off protection and neither part being built to handle large in-rush currents - so the 16210 is a good device to compete with this comp part.
