MUX36S16: Output high impedance when disabled?

Genius 12865 points
Part Number: MUX36S16
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MUX36D08

Hello Team,

can we use 2 x MUX36S16 and hardwire the outputs (both D pins) to build a 32 channel mux by enabling one and disable the other?

Is the dimension "dB" correct in the data sheet? Shouldn't this be MHz?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Hans

  • Hi Hans,

Absolutely you can use 2x of the MUX36S16 to create a 32 channel multiplexer in the way you described (tie both D pin together and use single device at a time). Just be aware that when you do this, you need to account for the extra OFF capacitance (COFF) due to the drain pin from the disabled device that will be tied to the output which can affect your timing and bandwidth specifications.

Lastly, you are correct that should be in MHz. Below is the frequency response of the MUX36D08 device which is specified to be around 430MHz as seen in the electrical characteristics table and shown in the plot.

The MUX36D16 will have a reduced bandwidth (around 260MHz) due to the fact is has more channels connected to each drain pin.

    Thanks!
