TS12A12511: Requesting suggestion on Design guidelines

Part Number: TS12A12511

Hello,

We have planned to use TS12A12511 analog SPDT switch. As per the datasheet it is mentioned that 5ohm On resistance in the channel.
Since we are using this switch in 75ohm Video application, adding the 5ohm by this IC will be issue. How can we compensate this? Kindly suggest.

Thanking you in advance

Balkis

  • Hi Balkis,

There are a couple options that you can pursue that could help compensate the insertion loss of the TSA12A12511 in your application.

The first is to add a high impedance stage within the signal chain. This can be a unity gain amplifier if the signal is analog or a buffer if the signal is digital (high or low). This creates a high impedance load from the switches perspective and so the buffer/amplifier will see appx. the input signal as the input impedance >> than the switches on resistance. The buffer/amplifier chosen should have low output impedance  so that the load (75 ohm) will see appx. the input signal.

If this is not an option - then you may need to look into a different switch - if this is the case please provide the following information:

    1. The voltage supplies used for the switch

    2. The signal levels of the video signal that is being switched (Max and min voltage w.r.t. ground)

    3. Max Input Signal Frequency

    4. Max attenuation allowable for the application - i.e. if analog how much loss can the signal handle or digital what are the VIH(min) and VIL(max) thresholds needed.

Please let me know either way and we can see how we can help mitigate this issue!

  • HI Balkis,

Could you please confirm if this is resolved. If not, please help provide additional details per Parker's question so that we can help identify a potential alternative solution from our portfolio.

    Thank you,
