SN74CBTLV3245A: Float Pin Consult

Hi Team,

Our D/S requires the control pin of SN74CBTLV3245A should not be float, which should be connected w/ Vcc or GND. Does this requirement also applies to I/O pins of this device? Or customer can leave I/O pins float when unused. Thanks.

I/O pins are not control inputs. Unused I/O pins can be left floating; see [FAQ] Frequently Asked Questions about signal switches and multiplexers.

Hi Stanley,

The floating applies to the control pins not the I/O pins directly.

However it is best practice if an analog I/O is unused it be terminated to GND via a 50 Ohm resistor to prevent signal reflections - if the frequency is low relative to the path length of the solution this best practice can be ignored as reflections aren't a huge issue at low frequencies.
