TS3L501E: RJ45/2.5G switch

Part Number: TS3L501E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX646, TS3L500

Hello!

We need a 2.5G Ethernet port for switching. The schematic diagram is as follows.

The test found that after two change-over switches, the 2.5G signal could not be switched to RJ45. It was OK to remove the switch chip and directly weld RJ45. The TS3L501E switch chip was used. The following signals were all after the transformer

Does TI have any similar design or IC recommendation? thank you!!

  • Hi Bright,

For this application, is 2.5GHz or 2.5GBps needed? This will determine the bandwidth needed for the multiplexer, more information on this topic can be found in our FAQ.

In general, cascading 2 multiplexers like in the picture above has a negative effect on the bandwidth since capacitance is increased. We have higher bandwidth devices that will likely work but choosing the best option is dependent on the answer to the question above.

    Thanks,
    Tyler

  • Hi  Tyler

Thank for your reply, can u suggest same Part No. for this design?
The customer's actual design parameters are as follows
    Bandwith:2.5GBASE
    Symbol Rate:200MBd

  • Hi Bright,

With a bandwidth requirement of 100MHz, I am surprised the TS3L501E is struggling since it is rated for 600MHz. Is it possible to get oscilloscope pictures of the signals at the input to the first mux, output of the first mux and output of the second mux?

The TS3L500 is a higher bandwidth alternative rated for 1.1GHz. The TMUX646 would also work if the voltage being switched is 3.6V or less.

    Thanks,
    Tyler
