TMUX1204: risk or not when VDD drop before VD/VS signal

Part Number: TMUX1204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1511

Dear team,

If there any risk when VDD drop before VD/VS still with signal?

May I learn from you how to check the risk by datasheet parameter?

Thanks,

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Yes, lowering the VDD voltage with voltage still present on the source or drain pins can cause damage. This violates the recommended operating conditions where voltages on Vd or Vs are limited on the high side to the VDD voltage value (see below table). Selecting a device with the powered off protection feature would resolve this issue because devices with this feature can have voltages present on the source/drain pins regardless of the supply voltage. Here is a link to a TI Precision Labs video explaining more on the feature: Simplify power sequencing with powered-off protection

Unfortunately there is currently not a device in the portfolio that has this feature in the single channel, 4:1 configuration. An alternative option would be to use the TMUX1511, which does have this feature, and connect all of the drain pins together to create the 4:1 configuration similar to this setup:

    Thanks,
    Tyler
