TMUX7462F: Protecting 3-Wire RTD sensor to 48V overvoltage on inputs

Part Number: TMUX7462F

We need to protect a 3-wire RTD measurement circuit to 48V short circuit on any input.

Would one TMUX7462F powered at 10V accomplish this task?

We need to clamp the inputs to maximum 3.3V, so can we assume we need to connect Vfp to 3.3V and Vfn to GND?

  • Hi Mihai,

Yes, that is certainly achievable with the TMUX7462F as it can be powered from one rail (10V in your case) and then you can set the fault voltage to be anything above 3V for VFP (so 3.3V would be fine here and the device will enter the faulted state at VFP + ~0.7V). In addition, this device can handle fault voltages of up to 60V, so 48V are well within the margin of the specification.

Let me know if you have any more questions on this.

    Thanks!

    Bryan
