SN74CBT16211C: Undershoot Protection Circuit

Part Number: SN74CBT16211C

Hello,

a question regarding the SN74CBT-C undershoot protection circuit.

Is this feature only active (or useable) when the switch is off/disabled (OE# = high)?
What happens (at the switch "output") when the switch is on (OE# = low), and the "input" signal shows a (say) -1V pulse/undershoot?

Thanks

  • Hi AP,

You are correct that this feature is only active when the switch if off/disabled. If the switch is on, then care must be taken to limit current as the device has internal clamp diodes to handle undershoot events. It is ok if the voltage drops below 0V (undershoot) if the clamp current is less than the rating I(I/OK), which is -50mA. As long as the current does not exceed -50mA while VI/O < 0V, the device should be protected.

    Thanks!

    Alex
