TMUX6236: If the input signal's voltage can over Vcc of TMUX6236

Hi Team

Customer wanna test two separated 12V Vout through a 2:1 MUX. If we have related MUX device which can withstand the signal over the Vdd? I noticed that TMUX6236 can support rail to rail, but if it can meet this requirement? and do you have any recommendation for this requirement?

That VDD is available?

Are you switching 12 V signals or power?

Vdd is connected to 12V from stand-by power of PSU.

we are switching 12V signals with is sensed from tow 12V main output

Hello Harry,

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from my understanding the customer wants to pass two signals of 12V through the TMUX6236, while also powering it with 12V.

I am assuming the question is if the TMUX6236 can work in this application, which the answer to this is yes. The device is rated from 5V to 36V.

Thanks for your answer. your understanding is right. what I concerned is that input voltage equals the power rail, if the power rail drops below than the input volt, but it is still in the range from 5V to 36V, if the device still can work in this situation?

As shown in the absolute maximum ratings, voltages above V_DD + 0.5 V can damage the device.
As shown in the recommended operating conditions, voltages above V_DD are not guaranteed to work.

There is no 12 V switch that can pass through voltages beyond the supply.

How much is that drop? A difference of 0.5 V would not really matter for the switch, and I guess the device reading the signal can tolerate clamping to V_DD.

Hello Harry,

In this situation the device might get damaged. The TMUX6236 is not capable to operate beyond the supply. If the power rail voltage drops below the input voltage, the device will not be able to tolerate it and might won't work.

What is the expected voltage drop?

Also, can you please elaborate on the customer's application and requirements? I might be able to recommend a different device.
