TMUX646: TMUX646 schematic review

Part Number: TMUX646

Hi Team

would like TI to review schematic for TMUX646 and share your comments

we are going to interface 8MP and 0.3MP camera
also do let us know if you have any clarification required

  • Hey Bhavesh,

Nothing stands out here from a physical layout perspective being an issue but I do have a question for more of my knowledge and to make sure the mux will be fine.

Do you happen to know how the actually encoding works and how I can use that to solve for the operating frequency the mux is going to see. So the highest data transfer rate here would be with the 8MP camera so that would be the condition that we care the most about.

I see 2 differential pairs here for the data, D1 and D2. I'm assuming that you'll need 8Mega bits per second transferred and the two differentials are probably read once or twice per clock cycle. If it's once, the frequency of the clock that the mux will be seeing would be 8GHz/2differentials/1read per cycle = 4GHz. That may be pushing the upper limits of what the mux can handle in terms of square waves like you'll be using.
Now if it's 2 reads per cycle then we're seeing 2GHz and we're going to have a lot more room to work with.
There's also some protocols that use some symbol based encoding so you may be somewhere between 2 and 4 reads per cycle, which also could be fine.

If you had an idea on that, I can give a more definitive answer. I'm just not as familiar myself with it.

    Thanks,
    Rami

    Hi Rami,

as of now we are able to interface 8MP imx219 camera with our processor directly and capture images with 2 data lane.
    8MP 15fps mode,.width = 3280,.height = 2464, RAW8 format, pixel rate 182.4M

kindly let me know if you need any further information to confirm the part usage

  • Hey Bhavesh,

Sorry I don't have so much experience with camera parameters. I believe this should be fine, but can you confirm what the clock frequency itself will be?

    Thanks,
    Rami

  • Hi Rami,
1)you dont see any issue with the schematic right?

2)can you assign the ticket to your another team member to confirm the data rate

  • Hey Bhavesh,

    1) Yea, no issue with the schematic.

    2) Sorry seems I somehow misread your 8M as 8G so I was using 8GHz as the frequency and was concerned with the upper limits of the mux. At 8MHz the mux will easily support. That being said, I did ask my team already and we're mux experts not camera experts so not surprisingly no one knew the specific data rate for your camera in your system off hand. I did search it though and found the imx219 has a clock frequency between 6 to 27MHz. So I can confirm the 646 should support.

    Thanks,
    Rami
