TMUX6234: RS422 multiplexer

Part Number: TMUX6234
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX8212, AM26LV32E

Tool/software:

Hi All,

Are there any multiplexer products that can switch RS422 differential signals?

In past E2Es, there were comments that this could be achieved with the TMUX6234.
It seems that the TMUX6234 cannot receive differential signals. Is my understanding incorrect?
Should the RS422 differential signal first be received by the receiver and then input into the TMUX6234?

Best Regards,
Ishiwata

  • You can switch the RS-422 differential signals with any switch that can handle the RS-422 voltages. RS-422 receivers have a wide common-mode range and tolerate even higher transients; if such voltages can actually happen in your system, then the switch must also be as robust. (The TMUX6234 can handle ±18 V and is latch-up immune, so it can be suitable for such an application.)

In general, it is much easier to switch the logic-level signals; logic-level switches are much cheaper.

  • Hello Ishiwata,

As Clemens mentioned the TMUX6234 can be a good choice, but I can also recommend the TMUX8212. It is a 1:1x4 channel device that can pass +/-25V signals for the RS232/RS422 standards. Nominal bandwidth for this device is 400MHz.

    Thanks

    Nir

  • Hi Clemens, and Nir,

Thank you for introducing your product. It's very helpful.

I want to confirm if my understanding is correct.

If I want to input a differential RS422 signal, do I put a receiver in the front stage?

    AM26LV32E→TMUX6234 or TMUX8212→

I understand that the configuration is as follows, is this correct?

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata

  • Hello Ishiwata,

Can you please elaborate on the mux application in your system?

Are you driving the receiver and passing the signals from the receiver through the mux? What are you trying to accomplish using a multiplexer?

    Thanks,

    Nir

  • Hi Nir,

    Sorry.
    I misunderstood the customer's configuration.
    I would suggest RS422 receiver + logic, or TMUX6234 or TMUX8212.

    Thank you for your support.

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata
