TMUX8108: Analog switch and multiplexer difference

Part Number: TMUX8108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX7612

Tool/software:

TMUX8108 is a multiplexer, and what is the essential difference between analog switches, for example TMUX7612

Whether there are relevant application notes introduction?thanks

  • It does not make sense to call a 1:1 (SPST) a multiplexer.

For N:1 (with N > 1) devices, it does not matter whether you call them switches or multiplexers.

  • Hello Anna,

The TMUX7612 is called an analog switch because it has a 4-channel 1:1 configuration, which is basically means 4 separate channels each one having a single switch.

TMUX8108 is called a multiplexer because of its 8:1 configuration. Having 8 inputs going into one output, or vise versa selected by the logic pins.

As Clemens said, it doesn't really matter.

    Thanks,

    Nir
