Control Logic of TS12A4516

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS12A4516, TS12A12511, TS12A4514, TS5A9411

Hi, we are using TS12A4516 as a +-5.5V signal switch, the project is about to mass produce, we suddenly found out the TS12A4516's control logic high is VCC+ - 1.5V, however, we are using a 3.3V to control it and it works well!

We then remember when we started the design, we used TS12A4514 and TS12A12511 is former versions, they both 2.4V logic high, so we ignored TS12A4516's control logic high limitation.

Here, we'd like to double confirm that using a 3.3V logic to control 4516 is OK or not? Altough till today, the 10 boards we are using is functional good, we are afraid of the mass production result.

Thank you for your reply.

  • Frank,

The Vih minimum value in the TS12A4516 datasheet is V+-1.5V as you indicated above.  Naturally we have some guard band in our specified datasheet values, so it doesn't surprise me that it is possible your system is working fine.  However, we can only guarantee the limits stated in our datasheets.

Is there any reason why you cannot use the TS12A12511 for your design which can guarantee the Vih minimum value to be 2.4?  What is the requirement that is driving the TS12A4516 over the TS12A12511?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Adam,

Thank you! The 4516 has 5x better input capacitance, wider bandwidth, and most importantly, it's much cheaper than 12511! We will find a way to meet the control logic requirement.

  • Frank,

Thank you for providing the additional requirements that you have preference to low cost, low input capacitance, and high bandwidth solution to help our search.

The ($0.16/1ku) TS5A9411 device will be a great solution for you meeting your priority requirements:

    1)  Supports 5.5 V signals

    2) Supports 3.3V logic

    3) Low cost ($0.16/1ku)

    4) low capacitance

    5) High Bandwidth

    Thank you,

    Adam
