TS5A3167 abs max analog voltage range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A3167

Hi, I'm using TS5A3167 analog switch.

Can I input some positive voltage analog signal to NC or COM while V+ is 0V?

Although the absolute maximum rating of analog input is "(V+) + 0.5V" in the datasheet, the note (4) says "it may be exceeded if the cramp current is observed". The abs max of Analog input current is only "-50mA" and no positive value are written.

Does it mean I can input "0 + 0.5 V" signal to NC or COM when V+ = 0V?

I think listing only "-50mA" implies no diodes are between input and V+.
If so, is the abs max input of "(V+) + 0.5V" correct?

Thanks,

  • I would hate to imply things so I will defer to the recommendation of the applications engineer for this device.  I have contacted the engineer for this device to comment further.

If you would like a switch that can safely have positive voltage analog signal to NC or COM while the supply pin is 0V you need to find a switch with IOFF or Ioff protection feature.  You can find these types of switches on the this signal switch selection tool on TI.com, using the additional features filter on the left hand side, and selecting IOFF and Ioff protection.  It looks like there are 73 devices with this feature.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Although , it does have positive ESD diodes on the analog input pins which must not be violated during the normal operation , however , the TS5A3167 has Ioff protection circuitry as listed in the feature bullets as isolation in power off mode at V+=0 .
The electrical spec table has the spec for the current leakage during this mode listed as Icompwroff and Incpwroff .
  • Thank you Adam and Shreyas,

    Let me confirm...

    1) For positive analog voltage while V+=0
Ioff feature of TS5A3167 guarantees the performance listed as Icompwroff and Incpwroff.
We must observe the input less than +5.5V.

    2) For negative analog voltage while V+=0 (if it would occur..)
We must observe the diode current Ik less than -50mA.

  • The negative voltage abs max of -0.5V and IIk less than -50mA . The abs max ratings are not be violated in any situation .

  • Dear Shreyas

One more query for abs max in NORMAL operation.

In the normal operation, abs max input is -0.5V to (V+ + 0.5V) with note 3)4)5).

According to 4) and 5), if the clamp-current is observed, abs max input is +5.5V.

However, no positive analog diode current is listed as Ik. Does it mean abs max input for positive analog input is +5.5V for any V+? Or should we have to place current limit register for positive voltage at input?
