TS3L500AE: 10/100/1000Base-T applications

Hi team,

My customer is considering using TS3L500AE with the two configurations shown below
for 10/100/1000Base-T applications.

The customer asked  which configuration is recommended for 10/100/1000Base-T applications.

I think configuration B should be recommended. Because cofiguration A has isolation issue.
Is this correct? Please let me know.

Best regards,

  • Fumio,

As far as the switch is concerned it doesn't matter which configuration you choose as long as the signals passing through the switch are within the recommended operating conditions.

You should not place magnetics on both sides of the switch because the AC coupling of the magnetics will remove the DC bias and expose the switch you negative voltages.

As you mentioned the magnetics are used to isolate and protect the system in which option 8 will also protect the switch.

Also, I think many RJ45 jacks have magnetics built in and if you have two ports it will look more like option B.
