The CD74HC4051 is a 8:1 multiplexer that selects which of the 8 paths are connected based on the truth table below. You can program the truth table by using the GPIOs from your microcontroller to supply the E and S pins with logic low voltages 0V or logic high voltages Vcc.
Do you have more information or a diagram of what you would like to connect to the 8:1 multiplexer and what type of device you are using to control it?

You may use the CD74HC4051 as a demux but you will need a separate device to control the logic pins. I'm going to move this thread to the processors forum to have a recommendation.
