TS3USB30: Difference between USB MUX and USB HUB

Hello Team ,

my customer wants to interface 2 USB device ( WIFI dongle and a USB storage stick ) simultaneously . his uC has single USB port .

We are confused if we have to go for a USB hub or a USB mux will do the job .

Can you please help me here .Also please share whats the fundamental difference between USB hub and USB MUX .

The mux multiplexes differential outputs from a USB host device to one of two corresponding outputs, so it is a one to one connection. For your application, you would need a USB hub.

so mux will allow only one of the 2 ports to interface with the USB ports of uC at once ?

Can you share an application in detail where MUX shall be used .

Which shall be the most low cost and simple USB hub for 480Mbps speed USB .

For high speed hub, TUSB4020B (2 port) or TUSB4041 (4 port) is the solution.

Please take a look at Figure 13 of TS3USB30 datasheet for the mux usage.
