TMUX136: Can the TMUX136 be used to switch CML signals?

Part Number: TMUX136

Can the TMUX136 be used to route CML signals? I have two ChannelLink II transmitters and I would like to use the TMUX136 to route these to a single ChannelLink II receiver.

  • Richard,

Any signal switch will support any signal standard as long as the signals are within the recommended operating conditions of the switch.

I think Current Mode Logic  (CML) signals voltage is not defined so you need to make sure your TX and RX do not exceed the recommended voltage of the TMUX136 of 3.6 V.

Next you will need to check the Current Mode Logic (CML) bandwidth/datarate which I think ranges from 300 Mbps to 3000 Mbps.  We recommend using switches with bandwidth 1.5 times the datarate so the TMUX136 bandwidth will be enough for 3000 Mbps signaling.

Finally you need to check the current through the switch to make sure it is <20mA as stated above in the recommended operating conditions table.

    Thank you,

    Adam
