TS5A3159-Q1: Is this switch bidirectional?

Part Number: TS5A3159-Q1

Is its channel bidirectional? I assume it is based on MOSFETs and in that case it should be bidirectional but I could not find any reference to MOSFET in specification. The name of resistant parameter “Ron” tells nothing neither (it is not Rdson which would say it is MOSFET due to drain-source abbreviation).

  • Hi Kate,

As the Pin Functions table indicates, all signal pins can be used as input or output (I/O). Additionally, the ON-state switch current is rated for positive and negative current.

In fact all TI analog switches and multiplexers are bidirectional unless otherwise stated. You are correct, that bidirectional operation is due to the passive CMOS structure.

Check out our new precision labs video on this topic, which explains more about the architecture of bidirectional switches and how to identify a bidirectional switch: Are switches & multiplexers bidirectional?

    Best regards,
