TS5A3159-Q1: Propagation time

Part Number: TS5A3159-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A27518E-Q1

Does anyone have an idea of what the propagation time of this switch is under these conditions:

1) the 'IN' pin (pin 6) is static at say logic high (This is the switch control pin)

2) A pulse is sent in on pin 4 'COM and measured on pin 1 'NO'

3) The supply is +5V.

What is the propagation time between the rising edge on the pulse seen at pin 4 and measured at pin 1.

There is a 'Turn on time' parameter stated in the datasheet but this is switching pin 6 when pin 4 (COM) is static.

  • Chris,

These passive FET switches have almost no propagation delay due to the silicon die.  The significant portion of the delay is due to the bond wire and packaging as seen in this e2e post below.  Typically the packages these switches are in have single digit ns to ~100s ps propagation delay.

What is the concern with the propagation delay of the switch in your system?  What signal are you passing through the switch at what rate?  Usually the switch nano/pico second delay is not significant comparted to the rest of the signal chain.

Here is an example of propagation delay of the TS3A27518E-Q1.  You can see that the propagation delay of the board traces was more significant than the device.

  • Adam,

Thanks for the reply.  I doubt this part will cause me any problems with that sort of propagation delay.

The switch was in the feedback loop of an amplifier ~100MHz BW to allow selective feedback paths

and I did not want it to introduce too much delay into the feedback path.  I think this device will be fine

     for my application

    Thanks again
