SN74CB3Q3257: Ethernet FE signal switch

Part Number: SN74CB3Q3257
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3L501E, TMUX1574, TMUX1511, SN74CB3Q3125

Hi team,

My customer want to use the switch to select the Ethernet switch signal.

The frequency is about 100MHz, the wave form is as below:

Can you help to confirm if the SN74CB3Q3257 can support FE signal?

Or do you have other recommend part for FE signal.

Lacey

Thanks a lot!

  • Lacey,

The SN74CB3Q3257 is a 4-channel 2:1 device the will support signals up to about 150MHz with a voltage range of 0V to 5.5 V.

What is your signal voltage range?

How many signals are you trying to switch?

There are ethernet switches at TI like the TS3L501E that are 8 channels so that you only need one IC for all 8 channels instead of using 2x SN74CB3Q3257 devices.

There is also a newer version of the SN74CB3Q3257 called the TMUX1574.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,
Thanks so much for your reply!
    1. For the SN74CB3Q3257, the I/O voltage is less than 3.3V, so does the SN74CB3Q3257 support the FE signal?

    2. Also they are finding the 1:1 switch which can support the GE signal, but it seems we don't have the part.
Can you help to recommend and give your comment!

    Lacey
    Thanks a lot!
  • Lacey,

    1) The SN74CB3Q3257 will support signals that are <150MHz and < 5.5 V.  The new TMUX1574 is good choice for supporting signals >150MHz.

    2) There are many 1:1 switches that will support >100MHz signals at 3.3 V you can find using the ti.com switch search tool.

The SN74CB3Q3125 is the 1:1 version of the SN74CB3Q3257 and the TMUX1511 is the new 1:1 4-channel device.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

So the TMUX1511 seems it's a general data switch, so is it also support the GE signal?

So it seems we don't build a specific Ethernet 1:1 switch for GE signal. Right?

    Lacey

    Thanks

  • Lacey,

Are you asking about Gigabit Ethernet (GE)?  Would you please share the specification of the Ethernet GE signal,  Voltage range, data rate per signal path, and number of signal paths.

TI's devices are passive FET switches and can support any protocol as long as the protocol signal voltage and bandwidth are within the recommended operating conditions.  There are way too many different protocols in the world to make a device specifically for each one so yes the TMUX1511 is a general data switch that might support GE signals if they are within the devices recommended operating condition?

If you need devices that say they support ethernet on the datasheet you may look at the TS3LXXXX devices like the TS3L501E.

    Thank you,

    Adam
