TMUX1111: Supply Current Increase with IO voltage?

Part Number: TS3A4751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1111,

Hi

My customer would like to use TS3A4751/TMUX1111 in the battery supply application, Vbat=3.4V to 4.4V. VIO=1.8V

From the application note , we can see if the I/O voltage is lower than Vbat, the supply current is increased.

Need your help to check whether these two devices is same as the behavior that application note says. Thanks!

  • Hi Hisen,

The TS3A4751 has a recommend max of 3.6V on the supply pin and should not be used if Vbat can go as high as 4.4V.

The TMUX1111 can handle the supply voltages mentioned in your post.

Just to verify - when you say VIO=1.8V do you mean the voltage on the logic control inputs (SELx)? Or are you talking about the signals on the input/output path of the TMUX1111 (S and D pins)?

  • Hi

For TS3A4751 , we can set input voltage to 3.3V input. The VI/O means the logic input like IN1 to IN4.
For TMUX1111 , we can set input voltage to battery. The VI/O means the logic input like SEL1 to SEL4

Need your help to check whether power consumption is increased in this condition. Thanks!

  • Hi Hisen,

Yes the current consumption will increase if using 1.8V logic on the logic pins.

Here is an image from the TMUX1111 datasheet which shows the supply current vs logic voltage.

For a 3.3V supply and a 1.8V logic signal - the current would increase to ~220uA.

What is the supply current budget in the system? Is 220uA acceptable?

  • Dakotah,

If customer can use the 3.3V VDD voltage, Need your help to check if IN1 to IN4 pin is 1.8V, VDD voltage is 3.3V, does the device TS3A4751 supply current also increase?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

I tested a few devices in the lab today and the TS3A4751 current does increase if VDD=3.3V and IN1 to IN4 are at 1.8V.

In this case the current increases to 2.5mA, where the TMUX1111 current increases to 220uA.
