TS3A226AE: Question of TS3A226AE Detection for High Impedance Load

Part Number: TS3A226AE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A227E

Hi Sirs,

As a following of the thread the TS3A226 and TS3A227 share the same impedance ranges to determine the phone jack types.

Would you pls advise if the TS3A226AE can ground the sleeve when a high impedance up to 100kohm load (speaker mode) were inserted, since the TS3A227E can determine 3-pole TRS with up to 2kohm load?

Thank you and Best regards,

  • Hi Wayne,

I am just letting you know I am waiting on some confirmation back from our team on if this is possible. Once I have more information I will let you know. We are currently working on this.

  • Hi Wayne,

The TS3A226AE detects a 3 pole TRS input to the device by sensing the impedance between tip and sleeve, as well as ring to sleeve. The algorithm isn't specially looking for an exact impedance, it is comparing the impedance between Ring and Sleeve and Tip and Sleeve, if these two impedance's are the same it will ground the sleeve of the 3.5mm jack.

That being said, the max impedance the device calculates up to is 3k. that means any impedance above that will be denoted at 3k. While this shouldn't affect 3 pole detection, it can affect 4 pole. For a microphone to also be detected the impedance of the microphone must be less than 3k or else the chip will not correctly detect a 4 pole jack.
