TS3L501E: 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet from Router port has sporadic bring-up time when ping testing for verification of connectivity

Part Number: TS3L501E

I am conducting verification testing on a system with Ethernet ports coming from a router.

The Ethernet port is routed via cable to a test laptop.

The amount of time it takes for the port to come up and succesfully exeute the pings varies from < 10sec to > 30minutes.  Since the ping DOES execute eventually, I don't believe there is a connectivity issue with the ethernet port.  I have no idea how to account for the variation in length of time for the port to come up and ping......but I have seen the behavior consistently across other systems when sampled.  There is a TS3L501E mux in the path, but have confirmed that the other ports on the Switch operate reliably with bringup succesful pings almost immediately so do not believe the muxes have anything to do with the inconsistenty in amount of time for succesfull Ping.

Does anyone know if there is a requirement in the 10/100/1000Base Ethernet standard that requires a fixed time frame for the port to operate upon installment in a system?

  • Hi Beanie,

Thanks for sharing all the design details and the tests you have tried. The TS3L501E is the Ethernet switch used worldwide for years and it is the right fit for your use case.

I have not seen other customers complaining up to 30min ping command so far. We would like to continue this discussion when you find anything else.
