CD4097B: CD4097B

Part Number: CD4097B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MUX507

Dear Sir, please answer

I'd like to use CD4097B as (8:1)x2 analog multiplexer.

I have dual +/- 5 V power supply (+5V, -5V, GND).

I need to tranfer 15 mV.....3V, 50 Hz differential signal through CD4097B. I take this differential signal  from current trasformer. I need to feed this signal (after CD4097B) to differential amplifier with +5V, -5V supply.

1) If I understand right, for feeding "0" logical level to A, B, C,INH inputs, then I need to feed minus 5V voltage  to A, B, C,INH.  For feeding "1" logical level to A, B, C,INH inputs, then I need to feed 5V voltage  to A, B, C,INH. Am I right?

2) But maybe I can feed 15 mV.....3V, 50 Hz differential signal to CD4097B using single supply 10V ( Vss=0V, Vdd=10V)? But I suppose that it is impossible.

3) Please, recommend any IC for controlling A, B, C, INH inputs.

TIA

Sincerely,

Vladimir Naumenkov

  • Vladimir,

    1) I believe the CD4097B control logic pins A/B/C/D/INH are referenced to Vss.  This means you are correct, for logic low "0" you would supply the logic pins with Vss.  For logic high "1" you can put a value from 3 V to Vdd if you have a 10 V difference between Vdd-Vss.

    2) You may power the CD4097B device with Vss = 0V and Vdd = 10.  In this condition you can pass a signal from 0-10 V through the signal path.

    3) you may use a microcontroller like MSP430G2 GPIO pins to control the control logic pins A/B/C/D/INH

We also have newer device MUX507 has the benefit of control logic referenced to GND pin instead of Vss.

    Thank you,

    Adam
