TS3A227E: Asking for the TS3A227ERVAR pin 16 mic_present detection issue

Part Number: TS3A227E

Hi Team,

Cusotmer design TS3A227 for the mic phone ring detection. however, sometimes it works, and somtimes it fail.

Please refer to the following good and fail case.
Case 1(good)Plug the headset first and turn on the power
1. Pin 15(DET_TRIGGER) of TS3A227E keep low
2. Pin 16(MIC_PRESENT) of TS3A227E from high to low
3. MIC can work well

Case 2(Fail)Turn on the power first then plug the headset
1. Pin 15(DET_TRIGGER) of TS3A227E from high to low
2. Pin 16(MIC_PRESENT) of TS3A227E keep high
3. MIC can cannot work

Please review schematic/layout and provide your comment why might resulted in that pin16 did not pull low while plugging headset.

Here are the schematic and layout link.

  • SHH,

There was an error when I tried to open schematic and layout.  Would you please try to send a new copy again?

In case two, if you repeat the experiment by plugin in and unplugging headsets does the result work sometimes?

How fast are you plugging in the headset?  Is it possible that the TS3A227E completes its detection before the headset is fully inserted?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • SHH,

I reviewed the schematic and see you can initiative the detection sequence by using pull up 4.7k ohm resistor R685 to 3.3 V connected to the DET_TRIGGER pin.  When the headset is inserted into the phone jack, the phone jack switch is connected to ground creating a high to low transition on the DET_TRIGGER pin.  This is the correct operation.

I still wonder it the TS3A227E detection is completed before the headset is fully inserted into the jack.

    1. In case two, if you repeat the experiment by plugin in and unplugging headsets does the result work sometimes?
    2. Are you able to have the TS3A227E device powered on, and have the headset inserted, and then manually initiate a detection through the I2C registers?
    3. Does using a weaker pull up resistor on R685 improve the detection?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • SHH,

Were you able to make any progress in your testing?
