TS3L500: Can it be used as a Signal splitting switching between RJ-45 and FO transceiver with either one at a time.

Hello TI,

I am in need of a signal splitting IC which can be used with TI's DP83620 Ethernet Phy.

DP83620 provides only 1 differential output in terms of TX+/- and RX+/- which can be used for both Copper mode and Fiber mode with suitable resistors attached (Reference - DP83620 EVK development Kit).

My application required both Copper and Fiber signal to be designed on the PCB with field configurable option to select either modes. Since the 620 is limited to its number of outputs, can TS3L500 IC be used as where Copper or Fibre mode of Ethernet Phy could be selected by changing its SE pin.Attached an image for reference.

Since the data sheet does not mentioned 100 Base-FX explicitly, shall it be considered that TS3L500 with work well with my application in fiber mode
My application has 10/100Base-TX and 100 Base-FX what is the recommended bandwidth of the switching IC
Since my application would be fulfilled in 4-8 Bit as well so kindly suggest if any.
Does TI has a simulation tool where I can try these DP83620 with TS3L500 and simiar ICs and verify the signal outputs.

Chitransh,

Are you able to define the voltage and bandwidth/datarate requirements on a per channel/bit basis for your protocol. The TS3L500 device like all passive FET switches will pass any protocol through it as long as the protocol is within the recommended operating conditions.

This post talks about different Ethernet protocols and how to evaluate them on a per channel/bit basis to help select the switch. The TS3L500E bandwidth per channel/bit is 600MHz as stated in the datasheet.

I looked at the DP83620 device datasheet and it looks like the max datarate is 100Mbps which a 600MHz switch can support.

We don't have any models available for the TS3L500 device but you can use the parasitic series resistance and parallel capacitance to create rough RC low pass filter that can mic the 600MHz bandwidth of the switch.

Could you provide any reference to create this circuit with series resistance and parallel capacitance or the internal schematic for TS3L500.

Ahh,
My bad Adam, I tool your words "...We don't have any models available for the TS3L500 device but..." as you wrote and overlooked this part.
I will get this right away.

Also, do tell.
What would be End of Life for this product TS3L500?
Is there any tool provided by TI if i need to know the EOL of TI's several other ICs.

Sorry I was mistaken about the models or maybe I looked for a different device model when I made my comment.

Currently there are not plans to End of Life (EOL) the TS3L500 device but please see this link to our policy.

Newer devices that are similar to the TS3L500 are the TS3DV642 and TS5MP645 devices.
