CCS5 and CCS4 FlexLM Licence Server in parallel?

Can somebody please explain to me, if the installation of the FlexLM floating licence files for CCS4 and CCS5 is possible at the same server, e.g. with an identical MAC - address?

I have an running FlexLM system for 100 floating licenses of CCS4. Now I have received a new licence file for 25 floating licences for CCS5, which I want to install additionally to the running CCS4 FlexLM system. When I requested the new licence file for CCS5,  I used the same MAC address, which is already used for the existing CCS4 server. However, when we tried to setup the new licences, the 2nd start of the vendor-ID was denied by FlexLM.  Do I have to merge the two license-files in one file?

  • Hi Frank,

you should be able to use two license files (or merge them if you prefer) but not two instances of the vendor daemon as you discovered.

Note that the licenses will all be available as a single pool.  Ie a v4 user could grab one of the v5 licenses.

Please keep me informed if/how we can help further, but I hope this clarification will be a good start.

  • Lisa,

thanks a lot. I copied both license file in the same folder of the FlexLM server and it works now with one instance of the daemon both for my CCS4 and CCS5 licenses.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "a V4 user can grab a V5 license".  I understand this as: a current V4 user can install ccs5 by downloading it from the web and connect CCS5 again to the same license server. Is that right?

  • Hi Frank,

ok let me clarify, as I think you may have misinterpreted.

Let me start by writing that a v5 license will work with v4 or v5.   The opposite in not true.  A v4 license will not work with v5.   So what I was saying was a v4 user could occupy a v5 license meaning one less copy of v5 would be able to run.

Having said that, for any v4 license with an active subscription, the upgrade to a v5 license and CCSv5 is allowed.  You can go to myregistered software and check this out (I have copied the instructions below).

Hope this helps clarify.  Please let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
