Alternative to JTAG debugging (serial port etc)

Hi, are there any alternatives to JTAG debugging (mostly, read and write variables)? Does Code Composer e.g. support some kind of serial communication? We have used Crosshairs' tools, but they might be discontinued and we are looking for an alternative.

We don't want to use JTAG, as it is sensitive to noise, and capable of freezing the processor.

Hello,

While the base CCS debug functionality relies on JTAG communication, we do have other tools that can communicate with the target using different transports. The availability of these tools can vary depending on the device. What device are you using?

Hi, we are using C2000, e.g. 2809 and 28335.

For reading and writing variables, GUI Composer may be what you need:

It already supports JTAG and will support serial communication, though it will require some extra work on the target side (target side monitor). Serial support should be coming soon, maybe already in 5.4. I'll try to get an update for you.

I got an update and official support for a serial transport with GUI composer is planned for CCSv5.5

The release date for CCSv5.5 is around the first week of September. There will be no public beta or pre-release available.
